The Alice Alobi Foundation celebrated the International Day of the Girl Child on October 11, 2023, with a special initiative aimed at empowering and inspiring young girls. On this occasion, the foundation organized a unique and enriching experience for selected girls from Government Secondary School Kurudu. The focus of the event was a school excursion to the Digital Museum in Abuja, providing the participants with an opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of digital education and cultural exploration.
The day started with great enthusiasm as the girls, accompanied by teachers and foundation volunteers, arrived at the Digital Museum. The museum, equipped with state-of-the-art technology, served as an ideal setting for the girls to broaden their horizons and gain insights into various aspects of history, science, and art.
The girls were engaged in interactive displays and virtual exhibits that showcased the achievements of women throughout history, highlighting their contributions to various fields. From pioneering scientists to influential leaders, the Digital Museum aimed to inspire these young minds and encourage them to dream big.
As part of the excursion, the foundation organized workshops and discussions within the museum premises, featuring successful women from diverse backgrounds. These role models shared their personal stories, challenges faced, and the importance of education and perseverance in achieving one’s goals. The girls had the opportunity to ask questions, seek advice, and learn valuable life lessons from these accomplished individuals.
Additionally, the foundation facilitated hands-on activities related to digital literacy, encouraging the girls to explore technology and its potential in shaping their future careers. Workshops on coding, digital art, and other STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) subjects were conducted, fostering a sense of curiosity and enthusiasm for these fields.
The excursion was not only an educational experience but also a celebration of the girls’ potential and aspirations. It aimed to break down stereotypes, promote gender equality, and instill confidence in the young minds that they could excel in any field they choose.
To make the event memorable, the foundation provided the girls with educational materials, including books and resources related to the subjects covered during the excursion. The hope was that these resources would serve as a constant reminder of the possibilities available to them and inspire continued learning and growth.
The Alice Alobi Foundation’s commemoration of the International Day of the Girl Child at the Digital Museum in Abuja was a resounding success, leaving a lasting impact on the participants. It not only provided a platform for learning but also fostered a sense of empowerment, encouraging these young girls to pursue their dreams with confidence and determination.
